Green (PASS) sign
The green PASS sign means that the business establishment is following the applicable requirements under the Health Protection and Promotion Act for food safety and operational standards for personal service settings.
When will the establishment be re-inspected?Follow-up inspections will take place at the discretion of the public health inspector. In most cases infractions received by an establishment receiving a PASS sign can often be followed up during the next regular inspection. If repeat offences are observed, the public health inspector may lay charges under the appropriate legislation.
Yellow (CONDITIONAL PASS) sign
The yellow CONDITIONAL PASS sign means that the business establishment is not following all the requirements under the Health Protection and Promotion Act for food safety or the operational standards for personal service settings. Items that pose a risk of illness must be corrected at the time of inspection.
When will the establishment be re-inspected?A premises receiving a yellow CONDITIONAL PASS sign will receive a follow-up inspection within a few days. The operator is responsible for keeping the sign posted until the public health inspector provides a replacement sign at the time of the follow-up inspection. The public health inspector may lay charges under the appropriate legislation.
Red (CLOSED) or (SERVICE(S) CLOSED) sign
The red CLOSED or SERVICE(S) CLOSED sign means that a public health inspector found a health risk/danger and closed the establishment or service until the risks are removed.
When will the premises or service be re-opened?The public health inspector will re-opened the service or premises after the inspector has determined the health risk has been remedied. The public health inspector will issue the appropriate sign at the time of the re-inspection. The public health inspector may lay charges under the appropriate legislation.
